Super Viz Bros: Data Edition

Three icons. One quest. And a whole lotta charts. Before we press start, let’s talk about the trio leading this month’s #GamesNightViz challenge:

You’ve got Mario, the moustachioed plumber who’s been platforming through pipes and saving kingdoms since 1985.

Link, the green-clad hero with a sword, a shield, and no chill when it comes to Ganon.

And Sonic, the blue blur with attitude and speed to burn, always one step ahead of Eggman.

They’re legends not just for the games they star in, but for the worlds they built — colorful, creative, and endlessly replayable. So naturally, we had to bring them to our world: dashboards.

📂 Your starting inventory

This month, we’re diving deep into data-driven nostalgia — a triple-jump challenge where you can sprint through Sonic stats, map out the Zelda timeline, or count coins in the Mushroom Kingdom. You can pick your player. You can pick your dataset. Heck, you can even bring your own if you’ve been secretly tracking your Mario Kart lap times (no judgment). No need to break pots to find perfect datasets, we have some right over here for you!

Want to bring your own? That’s fair game. Homebrew datasets, player rankings, fan polls, or even your Amiibo collection tracker are welcome in this multiverse. Or choose one of the data sets from the #GamesNightViz Data Archive 💾 ... or even leverage on the current Data+TV IMDB dataset from Tableau too!

Get started here > https://www.tableau.com/community/tv

And of course, feel free to bring your own data! If you find anything interesting, we'll love to know about it too!

🎮 Welcome to the Crossover You Didn’t Know You Needed

Feeling like Toad in a boss level? Here are some sparks to get you started, whether you want to:

  • A Zelda timeline viz that splits like the actual timeline (yep, it’s wild)
  • A Sonic dashboard that animates speed over time (Pages + motion = chef’s kiss)
  • A Mario level tracker showing challenge vs. reward by world
  • A ranking of power-ups by usefulness, from Fire Flower to Tanooki Suit
  • A map of Hyrule built entirely in Tableau using layered image maps

…this is your time to power up your viz. Bonus if your viz feels like a game menu or looks like it belongs on a Game Boy. But here's some inspiration from the community to get you started!

🏆New badges to collect 'em all!

We are continuing our initiative of certifying your participation in the community project through issuing an unique digital footprint, which you can add to your LinkedIn profile too 😉 We also looking at retrospectively awarding for past Season 2 challenges!

Also, the team will also pick their top favorites to award an additional badge which is as prestigious as it looks!

We can't wait to see what everyone comes out with! 💖
